Watching the election progress

November 14

With all the events surrounding the election in the past two weeks, I tried not to get too caught up in all the details. However, I did watch the progress on TV last tuesday night.

Fore me, one of the most nteresting parts about major events is the fact every news channel feels they must cover the event. It provides a point when it's more obvious what the networks want to cover and the silly lengths to which they go in order to scoop the best story. Elections, in particular, are fun to watch because you get to see the anchors squirm with the live news feed.

This year, I found myself admiring the way NBC approached their broadcast visually. I particularly like the 08 with the check mark through it. This is what first caught my eye. It's visually appeal is way better than the 70s block type that CBS used.

I also like that NBC used the drop shadow to accent the image. It gives the look more depth. The flag reminds me of fields or rural america, while the decision font reminds me of the business/corporate sector. The way NBC used the check mark to indicate who won what was excellent. That's clever design.

The NBC design 08 logo makes the CBS logo look really bland. Besides that, I was impressed by both speeches made by the presidential candidates. Their words fit the occasion and were quite graceful. I'm still not sure how I feel about it all, but I'm not going to complain. Whether I agree with the policies or not, I'll take what comes.
